Wymering Manor

Wymering Manor is a Grade II listed building (1) the oldest in Portsmouth, England and it was the manor house of Wymering. The majority of the current building is 16th century in construction. However, there are parts that still exist which are Roman and medieval materials.

When we visited the manor, my first observation was that the exteriors were quite in contrast with the interiors. While the exterior was monochromatic in style, the interiors were a dash of popping bright colors, that visually stood out. The atmosphere of the house was a mixed feeling of walking through time, experiencing and living through what people did almost 100 years ago or more. Physical elements like architraves (which were very detailed), Chimneys (many in number- signs of luxury), spiral staircases, curved hallways, and the usage of timbers caught my eye. These are the elements that are still popular in today's construction and Interiors.

We explored the places through our senses, and while the visual and the touch/feel elements were dominant in obvious ways, the sound was what we picked as a stronger connection with the building. Every corner of the building had different echos of its own.
